Goal It is the goal of this physical education course to teach the value of physical activity through team sports, individual sports and fitness activities. Students will learn body management skills, develop teamwork, sportsmanship and cooperation skills in a positive environment that promotes a healthy lifestyle. All classes will follow the California Education Content Standards (approved by the State Board of Education in January 2005.)
PROCEDURES- Typical daily class routine:
Locker room- Dress for PE (5-7 minutes) Attendance- Sit on assigned attendance number (1-2 minutes) Class briefing- Explanation of today’s lesson and state today’s objectives (2-3 minutes) Warm Up- Prevent injuries (5 minutes) Lesson- Consists of physical fitness, movements and other sport/health related concepts. Locker room- Dress for following classes (5-7 minutes)
PE Uniforms All students are expected to wear a uniform during the physical education class every day. The PE shirt and shorts can be purchased at the office.
• PE shirt, solid burgundy shirt, or BMMS T-shirt • PE shorts or solid black shorts or sweats (no pockets) • Socks and athletic shoes • Hats may be worn if used for sun protection • PE clothes MUST NOT be worn over school clothes
PE Baskets (Lockers), Locks, and Locker Room Procedures
1. Baskets/Lockers: PE baskets are assigned to each student at the beginning of the year. PE clothes will be locked in the PE basket Monday-Friday, and will be taken home to be washed on Fridays. All electronics and valuables should remain locked in each student’s respective locker for the duration of the class period. BMMS is not responsible for lost or stolen valuables.
2. Locks: Students MUST have a lock on their basket at all times to ensure safety of one’s property. Locks can be purchased from the office. We strongly encourage students to: a. Not share their combinations b. Make sure that no one is watching you closely when using your combination c. Before you leave the area, check that the lock is locked by pulling on it and turning the dial.
3. Locker Room Procedures: All students will attend a locker room discipline talk prior to dressing out the second week of school. The discipline talk will cover basic rules for students to obey while they are changing in and out of their PE clothes.
Medical Excuses If a parent or physician wishes to request that a student be excused from class activities for a medical reason, please contact the Health Office at 414-1300, ext. 3908. A parent note will excuse a student from physical education activities for up to 3 consecutive days. If a student is to remain out of physical education for longer than three days, a physician’s excuse must be provided to our health office.
Tardy Policy Students are expected to be on their roll call number by the time the teacher arrives to the roll call numbers (approx. 6 minutes after the bell has rung). If students are not on their number by this time they will be marked tardy. Multiple tardies negatively affect citizenship and after 3 tardies, a detention is assigned.
